Advantages and Disadvantages of Penetrant Testing.
Like all nondestructive inspection methods, liquid penetrant inspection has both advantages and disadvantages. In other words Dye penetration inspection has it’s own advantages and disadvantages compared to other non-destructive testing methods.
Like all NDT inspection methods, liquid penetrant testing has both advantages and disadvantages. The method has high sensitivity to small surface discontinuities. Large areas and large volumes of parts/materials can be inspected rapidly and at low cost.
It is generally accepted that liquid penetrant testing has the following advantages: Sensitive to small surface discontinuities. Few material limitations—works on metallic, non-metallic, magnetic, non-magnetic, conductive, and non-conductive materials.
Advantages of the penetrant method of Non-Destructive Examination are: It is a very sensitive method, capable of finding extremely fine flaws. It can be used on magnetic and non-magnetic metals, some plastics and glass. Small objects, with awkward shapes, can be inspected.
